Small bathrooms are a great place to start if you want to shake things up in your space on the cheap. An added bonus is that I personally feel like superwoman if I’m able to paint a whole space myself in a day.
There was nothing wrong with the space before, but I wanted to give the bathroom some character and add some functional details.
Here’s some before and after shots of our bathroom-laundry combo:
Paint is your best friend when it comes to easy and affordable with a big impact.
I chose to chalk paint our small vanity and used Annie Sloan chalk paint in French Linen.
I finished it with Annie Sloan clear wax to seal and protect the vanity. Honestly it’s holding up fine, but if I were to paint a vanity again I’d use Minwax Polycrylic Protective Finish. Much easier to work with.

Next up: paint for the walls.
I thought the wall behind the washer and dryer was just begging for some kind of an accent wall. My mind initially went to wallpaper, but since this was a budget makeover I chose to paint.
Accent wall is Ecological by Behr and the white is Blank Canvas by Behr.
I wasn’t a fan of our vanity light fixture but didn’t want to spend the money on a whole new light. The frosted glass bell shades were feeling a bit dated to me.
A great option to easily update your lights is to just switch out the glass shades.
Big retailers like Home Depot and Lowe’s have a lot of great inexpensive options. I also swapped out the bulbs for some some clear Edison bulbs.

One of my favorite DIY projects for this bathroom is my rolling laundry cart. This guest bath-laundry combo was seriously lacking storage.
I had an old, inexpensive MDF three tier bookshelf in an espresso finish. I painted the bookshelf the same color as the vanity (Annie Sloan French Linen) and put some rolling wheels on the bottom.
The slim, MDF legs were causing some difficulty when trying to screw the wheels. I’m certainly no expert in projects that involve any kind of construction or woodworking. My very basic solution for this was to glue four pieces of square wood molding onto the bottom of the legs to give the wheels more surface space to screw onto. It worked great!

Lastly, an easy DIY I wanted to share was the coordinating wall art.
I purchased a digital download package on Etsy and printed some of the images out myself.
I have a collection of thrifted yellow gold frames. The yellow gold was a bit overbearing in the bathroom, so I toned it down with some pewter Rub n Buff that I happened to have on hand. The result toned down the gold and made the frames two-toned and coordinated.

I hope my small bathroom-laundry room inspired you for any of your own upcoming DIY projects!
